The vote stood 27 for convic tion and 23 for acquittal; but as it requires a two third vote to convict, the .Judges were declared acquitted. The vote to convict was made up of ; 27 democratic jurors, among the best mem in the State; the vote for acquittal was composed of 12 democratic jurors, as good men as the State affords, and 11 republican Senators, good men but hardly jurors, Pritch ard having tagged their votes before the trial. While it is an acquittal, it cannot be a vindication of the action of the Judges in overriding the constitution and laws of tlie State. The effect of the trial will result in much good. It will remipd the Legislature to be conservative and careful in passing laws. It also calls the Judges to a halt in their wild career of resolving themselves into political machine in viola tion of law and constitution. The people will see to it their Legislature acts right, and al so that judges study Law in stead of Politics.
